Customer Friendly

For a small business, customers are everything. But knowing how to handle relationships is not always easy. Whether dealing with questions and complaints or ideas, shout-outs, and praise it is important to stay customer friendly.

At Batchbook, we have a few favorite ways to express our customer friendly nature that we’d like to share.

  • Be Ready to be Personal

Not all customers want a relationship with your business, but for those that do, make it happen by being accessible, responding, and reaching out. You don’t have to pretend to be a person, be yourself.

  • Stand Your Ground

Being customer friendly doesn’t mean you have to be all things for all people. Celebrate your small businesses uniqueness and attract customers who are more likely to dig what you do.

  • But, Don't Fake It

People know when you are genuinely caring about them and when you are just trying to drum up more business. If you show real love to your customers, they will repay you with kindness.

Some people would be amazed at how often simply following up on a phone conversation or an email or a blog comment can lead to some amazing opportunities. Jerome from Snapengage gets this. Prior to SXSW we told him we were co-hosting a Small Business Web event. He said he’d like to come. He showed up. We told him we were on a panel. He said he’d like to come. He showed up. And when he asked his question, one of the answers he got was from Chris Lucas at Formstack who said that when they launched Formstack, they sent cakes to every one of their integration partners. Just to say hello. The crowd had a good laugh.

A week later we got some gigantic cupcakes from SnapEngage. Jerome follows up. And I’m writing about how much I love his company.
